Lauren Ash Morgan is co-founder and artistic director of Speech of Fire, a new theatre company. From 2014 until 2019she was the artistic director for Seoul Shakespeare Company. While serving as SSC's Artistic Directors, Lauren Ash-Morgan was also in the roles of costume/set designer, producer, composer/music directors and text coaches. Ava DuVernay is a Californian born in Long beach on the 24th of August, 1972. As a child DuVernay's Aunt Denise inspired her love of art and creativity. The aunt she had was a nurse and did night shifts to ensure that she could devote her days to art literature and theatre. DuVernay immediately fell in love when she showed her the 1959 West Side Story film. DuVernay was educated by her mother about how art can be used as a tool for activism. DuVernay's mother also had a an awareness of social issues and showed DuVernay how to communicate by means of the medium of art. DuVernay lived in Compton during the majority of her childhood, but she would spend every summer with her extended family members living in Lowndes County Alabama.
